Global IMWG Data Standards SubGroup

The Global Information Management Working Group:  Data Standards Sub-Group has been established to foster alignment and collaboration on data standards among humanitarian actors. This initiative recognizes the critical need for clearly articulated data standards to improve interoperability, enhance data quality and streamline operations in humanitarian contexts. The Working Group will function as a practitioner-led forum for sharing expertise and developing consensus-based standards and guidance.  This group will build on the work of previous groups and standards in the humanitarian community.  

The Working Group initially agreed to meet for a six month period with a focus on concrete outcomes related to Terminology and API standards.

Summary of Phase 1 Achievements

• The group operated for 6 months (December–June 2025).

• Successfully created and endorsed two main catalogs:

  • Humanitarian Terminology Catalog 

  • API Catalog

• Endorsed core terminologies available in multiple formats and hosted on the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX).

Developed and endorsed a governance process for updating and adding new standards.
