COD-AB (and COD-EM) datasets include a lines layer which contains an individual line feature for each edge of the administrative feature polygons. The important attribute of the lines layers is the Thus COD-AB lines either separate distinct administrative feature polygons or separate administrative feature polygons from the COD-AB exterior.
The information in this section is also broadly applicable to Edge-matched administrative boundary dataset (COD-EM) information. |
COD-AB lines features contain an “admLevel” integer field which generally represents the administrative significance of each line. Special lines (excluding admLevel 0-9 and 99) are provided in this AdminLines_Lookup (MapServer) geoservice. This is essential for advanced cartographic visualization of COD boundaries including the adherence to special United Nations Secretariat instructions for specific border situations.
Standard COD-AB lines layer ‘admLevel’ values
admLevel value | Significance | Remarks |
---|---|---|
0 | International land boundary | Boundary between COD-AB (or COD-EM) and neighboring country/territory. |
1 | Administrative level 1 boundary | Divides polygons belonging to different administrative level 1 features, but same country/territory. |
2 | Administrative level 2 boundary | Divides polygons belonging to different administrative level 2 features, but common administrative level 1 features. |
3 | Administrative level 3 boundary | Divides polygons belonging to different administrative level 3 features, but common administrative level 1 and 2 features. |
4 | Administrative level 4 boundary | Divides polygons belonging to different administrative level 4 features, but common administrative level 1, 2, and 3 features. |
99 | Shoreline | Boundary between COD-AB (or COD-EM) and water that is not part of the same COD. |
